North Carolina provided more men for the confederate cause than any other state.There were about 130,500. This number made about one sixth of the confederate fighting force.North Carolina sent 130,000 to 135,000 confederate troops into battle and had the highest death toll.More than 1,000 North Carolinians died fighting for the union.Not many major battles occured in North Carolina.North Carolina was the last state to pass an ordinance of secession. North Carolina seceded because Lincoln sent 75,000 troops to South Carolina which was an invasion.
